Hi Besties!
Sharing a drink with y’all that I concocted last summer, and it has since become a staple drink! I really like that it’s light, relatively all clean, and low cal. It still tastes just great if you chose to omit the alcohol as well! This is a fairly “loose” recipe, so feel free to alter as needed or preferred.
What You Will Need:
-1 Small Seedless Watermelon
-1 Bundle of Mint
-1 cup of Vodka
Optional:
-Flavored Seltzer
-1 cup of preferred juice (I like something that “tastes like summer” such as Strawberry Kiwi!)
Slice the watermelon in half, and then proceed to cut into smaller slices, removing the rind as you go. It does not have to be sliced neatly, or even in small chunks since the blender will do the work for you! I will also remove the mint leaves from the stem (I don’t use the stem-too woody!), and I find it blends smoother that way. This is also something you can alter as needed, like a lot of mint so I throw in a few extra leaves.
Toss in all of the watermelon (or what will fit at the moment), and blend, blend, blend. Trust me- there is nothing worse than this drink being filled with pulp (and that’s coming from someone who loves a good pulpy OJ!). At this point, you can add any additional watermelon that didn’t fit into the blender the first time around. An optional step is to also add in ice. I personally do not, because I don’t want my cocktail watered down ;). However, you can also add in ice to your cup at the end if the drink is room temperature.
Once you feel that you have blended your little heart out, add in the mint and… you guessed it – blend more! Here is where you can get creative or keep things simple. The drink is really great as is, if you’re not wanting anything with alcohol in it. Although, when I bring it with me to the lake, I like to add in an *adequate* amount of vodka, haha! Regular vodka will work just fine, but I had some watermelon flavored Smirnoff on hand, so that’s what I have been using. I find that the flavored vodka helps to add a little sweetness to the drink and cut the alcohol burn (IYKYK).
The last time I made this for y’all on stories, I found a watermelon seltzer that I added to the drink mixture. I think it helped to “lighten” up the drink, although I have not tried it enough to say if I can whole heartedly recommend. I made a short TikTok and Reel showing how I make mine at home as well, if you’re a visual learner like me!
PSA: One note that I do want to make, is that this drink will separate. You have two options, drink faster (hehe) or shake/stir as needed! I will store extra in a mason jar (when on the lake) and keep it on ice. I find that this works well for when it settles, since you can shake up with the airtight lid.
Optional Part 1:
To help eliminate the settling/separation in the cocktail, put watermelon in a strainer over a bowl of equal size. Use the back of a spoon to push the watermelon through, separating the juice from the pulp. Continue until you’ve used all watermelon and place into blender. If choosing this route, I would also recommend adding in ice cubes to help create some consistency. (I am normally too lazy to do this but nevertheless I thought I’d share!)
Optional Part 2:
Try subbing cucumber vodka for watermelon. Still fresh and light, just added flavor!
That’s all for now, let me know how you liked it – or what you did differently!
CHEERS
xx,
